A video of a protest in Madrid against a plan by Spain’s acting Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to grant amnesty to Catalan separatists has been falsely claimed online to show a pro-Palestinian protest.
The acting premier’s Socialist Party (PSOE) secured the backing of the Catalan separatist party Junts on Nov. 9 via a deal that included passing a law to grant amnesty to individuals convicted over Catalonia's attempt to secede from Spain in 2017.
Thousands of people gathered across Spain on Nov. 12 to oppose the deal.
Photographs and livestreams (archived) also captured different angles (archived) of the same protest.
The protest was held over the Spanish government’s Catalan-separatist amnesty, not the Israel-Hamas war.
